I attended the meeting to listen to and discuss the future health care program. I found out about this change the other day, so i had time to digest this schocking and disturbing imformation. Though i have stage fright when it comes to speaking out in a public forum. I know those who know me must be snickering about now, but seriously, i had to try and find out if this was in fact a done deal, or did we have a grace period. Since dropping a bomb like this on all of just before Jan 1,2205, when this new plan takes effect. seems unfair,and unjust. we few who showed up, were in fact saddly informed this change would take effect .in the new year. For those of you who are un aware, the coverage we thought we had for 2005 is only for 1/2 a year. The trustees decided the change was needed so we were not bankrupt {P&W fund} in the next few years. WHAT ABOUT NOW!!!! TRUSTEES aren't we supposed to TRUST you?? WE could suffer personal bankrupsey, if we own anything ,and had an accident or catastrophic illness and no health coverage. There were members there who could have worked under white instead of pink contracts had they known the change was going to occur.The new plan goes by contributions from the employer, the hmo for a single needs 1700.00 bewtween OCT. and March then the second half of the race for those contributions. This does not work well for we freelancers.2 weeks of Dec are gone just with hiatus for the holidays and dosent generally get busy until maybe Feb. or if pushed March. There were suggestions made, for rolling over reserves, or maybe making monetary contributions, or even the possibility of the IA health care. President Illson, said they would look into our options. Speak UP, anyone who cares, we will be heard louder in numbers!!!! thanks for listening ! i feel for all of us..., after all this is supposed to be a brotherhood..
